The Masters of the Sea pub has long been a favorite spot to grab a quick bite and to delight in the extensive beer list, but this will be the first time that it features an onboard brewery. Award-winning brewmaster Teo Musso, who created the Baladin Farm Brewery, has worked with MSC Cruises to create a bespoke range of MSC signature craft beers that will be brewed at sea in the ship’s full-scale micro-brewery. The liner's largest entertainment venue is The World Theatre (capacity 1153 seats) hosting original large-scale show productions in the evenings and daily activities like lectures, bingo, trivia games, dance classes. That someone greenlit this superb space continues to boggle our minds -- in the best way. Other new and notable features aboard MSC World Europa include a surf-themed outdoor bar; a causal burger and pizza joint that's open around-the-clock; an MSC Sportplex that offers everything from sports tournaments to bumper cars; and an 11-deck high dry slide known as Venom Drop @ The Spiral. Keeping in that vein, Elixr is a clubby enclave that offers both indoor and outdoor seating, along with some of the most unique craft cocktails we've tried at sea, while the new Malt Lounge is dedicated to the cigar-and-cognac set and has the plush high-armed leather chairs to prove it. That’s the message from MSC Cruises’ newest cruise ship, the 6,774-passenger MSC World Europa, which at nearly 1,100 feet long, 21 decks high, and 205,7000 gross tons, is currently the sixth-largest cruise ship in the world. • Our ships offer the possibility of combining 2 or 3 connecting cabins based on the ship class. A striking futuristic silhouette cutting through the water with ease and grace shaped like an arrow with her signature plumb bow and never seen before Y-shaped aft opens onto the impressive 104-metre-long Europa Promenade with breath-taking ocean views.

To feel like you’re in a big city lounge with delicious craft cocktails–including many of the smoking kind–don’t miss Elixir–Mixology bar, a new offering just on MSC World Europa, with its edgy handcrafted concoctions and an outdoor terrace for sipping with sea views. The ship’s 2,631 staterooms and suites, spread across 12 decks and spanning a whopping 19 different cabin types, mean you have serious options for how limited or luxe you’re looking to sail. Forward is the MSC Yacht Club (exclusive Sundeck with its own swimming pool, Spa pool, bar lounge). I also found MSC World Europa’s beverage scene to be rather impressive, catering to all palates just like the restaurants. Brewmaster Teo Musso uses seawater in the beers brewed onboard the ship and served in the British pub; the mixology bar has a remarkable resort-like outdoor seating area; and the gourmet coffee bar and South Asian–style tea house caters to those seeking an elegant caffeine fix. And that’s not to mention the other offerings like the gin bar, the Champagne bar, and the juice bar. I stayed in a Deluxe Balcony Aurea cabin, a mid-tier room type that was on the smaller side, with a bed, sofa, and a balcony. The decor was minimal and a bit bland compared to the high-design public areas, with upholstery in shades of brown.

As a whole, the cruise industry is pushing for net zero emissions by 2050, though it’ll take significant advancements in technology and supply to meet that goal. But it will “future-proof” MSC World Europa and her sister ships by enabling them to start using new fuels, like biofuel or synthetic fuel, as soon as they become readily available. Because MSC World Europa is already equipped with the appropriate infrastructure for alternative fuels, it will be able to switch more seamlessly—whereas ships that run on diesel would need to be retrofitted to accommodate greener fuels.

Each boat has 5x Wartsila 46DF dual-fuel engines (14-cylinder, running on MDO/marine diesel oil, each is fitted with NOx reduction units), 2x Wartsila LNGPac (gas supply system/fuel storage), 7x Wartsila thrusters (steerable/4x bow, 2x stern), 2x Wartsila FPPs (fixed pitch propellers/5-blade). The machinery was scheduled for delivery in mid-2020 (World Europa) and mid-2022 (World America). The boat has 20 decks, of which 16 are passenger-accessible and 12 with cabins. MSC World Europa staterooms (2633 total, in 19 categories) include 159x Suites and ~65% of all cabins are with step-out balconies.

MSC World Europa, which launched in December 2022, is the cruise line’s largest ship to date, carrying nearly 7,000 passengers at maximum capacity. And it has plenty of amenities for all, from 33 bars and restaurants to a Formula 1 simulator to the world’s tallest dry slide at sea. So, yes, this ship very much feels like a floating city—but it marks a new era in MSC’s quest to achieve zero emissions. MSC World Europa is the first ship in the fleet to be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG), an alternative fuel that has fewer carbon emissions than other fossil fuels. (It does, however, have high methane emissions.) But what’s more, MSC World Europa is a testing ground for a new type of electrochemical fuel cell that’s 25 to 30 percent more efficient than combustion engines.
Powered by LNG, the world’s cleanest marine fuel, and featuring breakthrough green technologies MSC World Europa symbolizes the beginning of a new era of cruising. Yet another example of MSC Cruises’ firm long-term environmental commitment and responsibility to the future, this unique prototype features a ground-breaking design, where every detail is conceived to offer you a taste of a new cruising experience. On the same day at the French shipyard was held the keel-laying ceremony for the fleetmate MSC Euribia.
Particularly novel for cruisers who love flexibility–you can embark and disembark for your sailing aboard this ship in any of its six ports, as well as sail for as few or many days as you like. Passengers aboard MSC World Europa are primarily from Europe, with Italians and Germans representing the largest contingent on most sailings, followed by Brits and a smattering of North Americans. Expect to hear a wide array of languages onboard, spoken by people from all walks of life. Some are new-to-cruise, while others are experienced cruisers from both sides of the Atlantic who are drawn to MSC primarily because of its unique itineraries and lavish MSC Yacht Club options.

The line also said the Panorama Lounge would be home to four 90-minute music experiences that offer a mix of live bands, dancers, singers, aerialists and acrobats. The dancing on display during these performances will range from samba and tango to waltz, disco and lindy hop. Two new-for-the-line venues will be Chef's Garden Kitchen (an outlet focused on microgreens), and La Pescaderia, a traditional seafood grill with alfresco seating. Notably, the 341-foot promenade on MSC World Europa will be half-open to the sky and half-covered by an LED "sky screen"; the screen will light up with different displays throughout the day.
